![]() ![]() Since then, I've gone on to become a developer, architect, and now R&D, writing documentation all the way. ![]() I was a technical writer for my first four years in this industry. Oh, and I also keep a running FAQ of issues/questions (no names attached ofc) that teams can gain access to in a common digital space in the event any questions can be answered with a little looky-loo. The difference has been life changing in how much stress issues can cause. The anonymity is optional but it is there. This also includes a "drop box" allowing for anonymously reported issues if someone doesn't have an idea for a solution or if they see something and need it to be resolved in the proper wheelhouse. Ever since I started rejecting no solutions to problems, I have had a hugely different interaction with my collaborators. I verbally tell everyone, and I mean everyone (up to the top leadership of my employing companies), to never bring me a problem without a solution or without scheduling a brain storming session (around 30 minutes) with involved stakeholders to present ideas. That is a training (maybe not training, maybe expectation?) failure. just keep going down that rabbit hole, you'll find an IDK in there somewhere. ![]() New hires? Offboarding? what do we do for a ceo? what do we do for a ceo who's mired in scandal? what do we do for a ceo we don't like? what do we do for a ceo everyone loves? what do we do with their files? what do we do with their contacts? Next person surely will need some of the information the ceo put together?. Still, some what-if documentation to death as a means to never write it so I'm mixing up the approach hoping this sparks some inspiration to even get the simplest things written down.Ī good example of the what-if is they throw enough odd-ball one-off scenarios at a subject until the requestor says "I don't know" and then weasels their way out of the conversation, a few months down the road when questioned now says "we talked about it but we didn't have enough answers so we tabled it". Born of the same branch of the tree if (USMC) in the approach. That's where I started, providing a template, instruction, and structure. ![]()
